Launched in the wake of the success of the 51 S , the Comet 45 S reflects same general design principles and style. The hull was designed specifically with the idea of improving performance. The bow and stern are both vertical to increase the waterline length. The bow sections are very slender. The craft’s high freeboards mean that the deckhouse could be kept low and compact. It also boasts characteristic “loop hole” windows. A medium to light displacement translates in to excellent performance with a full cruising load. The deck offers wide gangways and a very large cockpit that extends all the way to the open transom. The interior layout is quite particular: the central position of the head allows for great freedom in organising the saloon without interfering in any way with the clean exterior lines.
Signs of the Comet 45S’s dual personality are everywhere aboard, starting with the main deck. The sail controls are organised to be both efficient when racing and easily managed by a short-handed crew when cruising. The cockpit is exceptionally large and can be personalised in terms of the organisation of the main sheet and the wheel set-up (twin or single). The deck offers a host of prestige details too, including numerous lockers with flush hatches, one of which contains an inflatable raft. There are also inset winch compartments and lots of steel components custom made in-house by Comar.
One of the big advantages of the Comet 45 S is the enormous flexibility of its interior layout. In fact, the aft head, situated centrally beneath the cockpit bench, allows great freedom in the à layout of the roomy saloon. The latter is, in fact, available either with an alongside galley and traditional chart table or with an L-shaped galley and two-seater chart table facing the saloon. There are several solutions available for the bow area too, ranging from an ample master cabin with head and separate show box, to two separate cabins with bunk berths. The aft cabins are furnished with double berths but a further single upper berth can also be added. Beautifully crafted cherry wood gives the interior a modern atmosphere that is still warm and welcoming. A total of 10 openable hatches also guarantee plenty of light and air.
